Lower order questions in VCE Business management examinations

There has been a decreasing trend in the number of marks allocated to lower order questions in VCE Business management examinations.

Lower order questions made up 8% of total marks in the 2020 and 2022 exams. 5% of marks were lower order questions in 2021. There were no lower order questions asked in the 2023 examination.

Lower order questions have been categorised as questions that:

  • have simpler task words such as ‘define’, ‘describe’, or ‘identify'
  • do not require students to link their responses to a business scenario or case study.

Here are examples of lower order questions:

  • Define the term ‘business objective’ (2020 VCE Business management examination Section A Qn 1a)
  • Define the term ‘government business enterprise’.  (2022 VCE Business management examination Section A Qn 1a)
